Description
James Shapiro

Tickets on sale January 8, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

“Brilliantly readable and revealing” (Guardian), James Shapiro’s immersive dives into the world of the Bard of Avon include The Year of Lear: Shakespeare in 1606, A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare: 1599, and Contested Will: Who Wrote Shakespeare? A professor at Columbia University for decades, a member of the board of directors of the Royal Shakespeare Company, and the Shakespeare Scholar in Residence at New York’s Public Theater, he has earned a litany of literary prizes and fellowships. In Shakespeare in a Divided America, Shapiro explores how the Bard’s plays have been embraced, invoked, and even weaponized over two centuries of American political and civic life.
